Things to Do in Sussex County, Delaware This Spring & Summer
One of my favorite things about living in Sussex County isn’t just the homes… it’s the lifestyle.
Once spring hits, everything comes back to life. The beaches, the local events, the outdoor spots — there’s always something going on. And if you’re new to the area (or even if you’ve been here a while), it’s easy to forget just how much there is to do.
So if you’re looking for ideas this season, here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy Sussex County in the spring and summer.
Spring in Sussex County: When Everything Wakes Up
Spring here is honestly underrated.
One of the highlights is the Lewes Tulip Celebration, where the town is filled with thousands of blooming tulips, walking tours, and local events. It’s one of those things that just feels like Sussex County.
It’s also the perfect time to:
• Visit local farmers markets
• Take walks through historic Lewes
• Explore blooming gardens and parks
• Enjoy outdoor dining before the summer crowds hit
Spring is quieter, slower… and honestly, kind of a hidden gem.
Beach Days & Boardwalk Nights
Once summer hits, everything shifts into full coastal mode.
Spots like the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk are a must — whether you’re grabbing food, people-watching, or just walking with a coffee in hand. And of course, the beaches themselves are a huge part of life here. Sussex County is known for its clean, popular beaches with everything from relaxing shorelines to active boardwalks and nightlife.
Summer staples include:
• Beach days with family and friends
• Ice cream runs after dinner
• Sunset walks along the water
• Live music and local events
Outdoor Adventures & Nature
If you love being outside, Sussex County has so much to offer. Places like Cape Henlopen State Park are perfect for biking, hiking, beach days, and even exploring historical sites like Fort Miles.
You can also:
• Go kayaking or paddleboarding
• Explore nature trails and wildlife areas
• Bike through scenic coastal paths
• Spend the day at quieter beaches like Broadkill
Outdoor recreation is a huge part of the lifestyle here, especially in the warmer months.
Family Fun & Local Favorites
There’s no shortage of fun things to do, especially if you have kids (or just want to feel like one again).
Places like Funland bring that classic beach-town energy with rides, games, and nostalgia.
Other fun ideas:
• Mini golf and go-karts
• Waterparks and arcades
• Ice cream shops and local treats
• Family-friendly events all summer long
Events, Festivals & Summer Vibes
From spring through summer, there’s always something happening.
Sussex County and the Delaware beaches are known for:
• Food festivals
• Live music
• Local markets
• Seasonal events and entertainment
There’s a constant mix of things to do, whether you’re into relaxing weekends or busy social calendars.
Why People Love Living Here
This is the part I always tell my clients: People don’t just move to Sussex County for a house… they move here for the lifestyle.
It’s the balance of:
• Beach days and quiet mornings
• Community and convenience
• Activity and relaxation
And once you experience it, it’s easy to see why so many people decide to call this place home.
