Taking a short, scenic ferry ride over to Pea Patch Island to explore Fort Delaware State Park is one of the absolute best family day trips in our little First State! The granite fortress is packed with rich Civil War history and costumed reenactors who bring the past to life. Attend the popular evening bat and paranormal tour and the heart-pounding demonstration of their massive 8-inch Columbiad cannon (my personal favorite). It's one of the largest active Civil War guns fired on the East Coast! I’s an incredible mix of hands-on education, local heritage, and fun for all ages.
