Dustin and I recently headed to Penny Square for our latest GetLocal feature, and we walked away completely charmed by Queenie’s Curio.

Owned by Kathryn Poole, the shop is a beautiful tribute to her grandmother, Regina (nicknamed “Queenie”). Walking in feels like stepping into a giant, life-sized curio cabinet—every corner is packed with handmade treasures like stained glass, jewelry, fiber arts, and woodwork.

What makes this shop truly special isn’t just the aesthetic; it’s the deep-rooted mission of inclusivity. Drawing from 15 years in the arts and her personal journey as a mother to a daughter with disabilities, Kathryn has built more than just a retail space. She has created a “no-hurdle” home for over 25 local artists, many of whom are selling in a permanent storefront for the very first time.

The shop is quickly becoming a true community hub where artists don’t just sell their work—they hang out and collaborate. Starting in February, you can join them for First Friday meet-and-greets to hear the stories behind the art. Kathryn is also launching a nonprofit called It’s Better Together to provide resources for families navigating disability diagnoses, with plans for the shop to donate 10% of future profits to the cause.

Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind gift or want to support the pulse of downtown Milford’s growth, Queenie’s Curio is the perfect place to start.
